Perkyo's the breakfast of champions

Well, due to Iris' oat allergy, the dietitian has recommended Perkyos to replace the Cheerios she can't have. So after making a special trip to Whole Foods, only to find out they didn't have them, we found the staple at our local grocery store. For $5 a box we can buy Iris the confidence that she is eating almost the exact same thing as other kids her age, thus avoiding permanent self esteem issues! I think it's a killer deal in that perspective.

She did seem to react to peas today. We noticed it right after lunch. We gave them to her again at dinner, and she had another strange scratch rash. Granted, it was smaller than they've been, but it was there. So peas are added to the OUT list. GRRRR Now she can't have peas, carrots, oatmeal or cheerios. Poor girl. I think it was these four things that kept me alive, mostly, as a child. I wrote to her birth mother requesting information on their family history of allergies. I'm not confident we'll hear back.

Onto Fire Safety. Today, our HOA hosted a fire safety presentation from the local Fire Department. It was so cool. They brought a fire truck for the kids to sit in, they extended the ladder way far, and they had some good tips for holiday fire safety. #1 Don't fry your turkey inside. #2 Make sure you measure how much oil is displaced by a turkey using water first. #3 Don't bring your charcoal BBQ inside if an ice storm causes a power outage. #4 Cut off four inches at the bottom of live Christmas trees and keep them well watered.

And I also learned that fire dogs NEVER road on the truck. They ran next to them or under them. And their original purpose was to guard the equipment and horses. Our local Fire Department doesn't have a dog. And they can't wait for someone to be dumb enough to park in front of a fire hydrant. They plan to move it with their big truck! Along with all these great tips, our HOA had a drawing for fire extinguishers. Nate won one. He was excited. We already have two, so I'm not sure where this one is going.

Here are some pictures of our fire truck safety presentation.

So sorry about the allergies, Amy! Hang in there! (Those "perky-o's" do sound good, though!)
